Dambridge Cess Reception Plant
Econotech completed a £115,000 project for MWH Contractors at the Southern Water Dambridge cess reception plant. This electrical installation consisted of site cabling to five MCCs for equipment installed at the new cess plant and sludge tank facilities. Cabling was also installed for existing asset renewals and upgrades.

Econotech's combined installation and control system design and assembly capability enabled it to successfully provide a concept to completion turnkey service including the design, production, installation, testing and documentation elements of the project.

Cabling was installed across site from the MCCs using ducts and an extensive network of heavy duty cable tray. The segregation of power control and signals cabling was maintained using a combination of cable tray sizes and dedicated cable tray runs.. Cabling generally was of the XLPE/SWA/PVC type for power, control, signal, instrumentation and communication cabling.

The plant was located at ground level, high level and below ground and comprised pumps, valve actuators, sensors and instrumentation. The installation included local isolator, junction boxes, distribution boards, internal, external lighting and lightning Protection. The existing MCCs were modified to incorporate the new control requirements.

Southern Water Waste Water Treatment Works
Econotech completed a £126,000 project for Morrison Utility Services, at Southern Water's waste water treatment works in Vines Cross, Sussex. The project involved the replacement of existing MCC into the same location whilst maintaining a fully operational plant during the change over. Econotech was also required to put in place new control systems for the three main pumps.

The new MCC design and the method for changing over from the existing MCC were critical. The plant had to remain operational during the changeover as effluent would continue to enter the plant and any plant failures could cause an Environmental Agency consent breach, environmental pollution and a substantial fine for the client.

In order to achieve this the Company used a number of temporary VSD starters, distribution boards and generators with extensive cabling being installed and commissioned prior to the installation of the new MCC. The MCC was designed and manufactured to meet BSEN60439-1 1994 and incorporating Southern Water's specification.

This is the type of complex project where Econotech's combined installation and control system design and assembly capability has enabled it to successfully provide a concept to completion turnkey service.

Benghazi Asphalt Water Purification System, Libya
Econotech completed an international project worth £70,000 for GE Ionics, part of the multinational giant General Electric Company. The project entailed the design and installation of an asphalt water purification system which produces RO permeate water for boiler feed water, ultimately used in the manufacturing of tarmac.

Econotech's contract included the design and manufacture of the MCC, developing bespoke software to meet the SCADA requirements, full testing and the onsite commissioning.

This is an example of a complex international project which the Company secured as a result of its strong reputation within the UK. The control system used an Allen Bradley PLC SLC5/05 with a Panel View Plus 700 HMI. The primary items of plant being powered controlled were:
  • 3 RO feed pumps (VSD);
  • 4 multi - media filters;
  • RO1 chemical dosing;
  • 2 reverse osmosis units (RO);
  • break tanks, flushing tanks and product tanks;
  • flushing pumps;
  • control valves;
  • instrumentation.

Ampress Water Treatment Works
Work carried out for Black & Veatch at Bournemouth Water's water treatment works (potable water) involved the refurbishment of an existing plant and generated revenue of £300,000 for the Company.

Econotech provided the filtration/high lift MCC, a separate ICA, local chemical dosing panels and two local borehole MCC/ICA panels. The Company also designed and carried out all of the onsite electrical installation works. The electrical installation involved a new HV/LV transformer, earthing, containment, a high lift pump house, cross-site ducting, XPLE/PVC/SWA power, control and instrument cabling.

The control systems and electrical installation were designed to meet Bournemouth Water's specification, stringent water industry standards and to cater for the green field site constraints. The design drawings were all produced in-house using AutoCAD. The MCC's were designed and manufactured to meet BS EN60439-1 1994.

This is an example of a multi-discipline site where Econotech demonstrated strong onsite coordination and project management skills to ensure the client's requirements were met. The scheme was completed both on time and within budget.
